‘A Dead Man’s Debt’ by Grace Elliot

Prologue -1780- Hazeldene House

The footman cleared his throat. “Your Ladyship, may I present Lady Georgiana Winthrop.”

Forgetting propriety Sophia Cadnum jumped up and, with a yelp of pleasure, ran to embrace her visitor.

“Georgiana, at last! I am nearly mad for the want of company.”

“Sophia, darling, Motherhood obviously suits you …. positively radiant,” Georgiana inspected her friend at arm’s length and then clicked her tongue, “….. in a dull sort of way.”

“Dull! You don’t know the meaning of the word until you’ve been confined in the country like … like a prisoner.”

This is set to be a rollicking good, period romantic saga, although the hints are there that some darker forces and undertones are just waiting in the wings.

They say that the first lines of a piece of writing, are always the most difficult to set down on paper. It seems to me, that they may also be the most definitive, as I find they often set the scene in my mind, even before I have turned the first page. Would these first lines make you want to keep on reading?

I can’t remember a time, even as a child, when I haven’t been passionate about books and reading.
I began blogging, when I realised just how many other people out there shared my passion for the written word and I have been continually amazed at the wealth of books that are available and the amount of great new friends I have made, from literally 'The Four Corners Of The World'.
