‘If You Only Knew’ By Cynthia Clark

IF YOU ONLY KNEW

Cover Image Of 'If Only You Knew' By Cynthia ClarkHello, I’m Elizabeth and I’m a killer.

I’ve dreamed about saying those words. I’ve always thought that it would be a relief to finally say them out loud, to stop suppressing the one secret that haunts me every single night. Every single day. Every single second of my existence….

Chapter One 2014

I’m clearing the remains of this morning’s breakfast from the kitchen when my work phone rings, stopping me in my tracks. I see my assistant’s name flashing on the screen.

“Hi Jennifer, what’s up?”

“There’s this girl.” Her voice is coming in rapid pants. “She’s going to be slaughtered by the prosecution unless you take over her case.”

Cradling my phone between my ear and shoulder, I rinse Coco Pops from a cereal bowl. There’s no time to waste; I’m already running late.

“Ok, I’m listening.”

I got in early to file the Preston paperwork. I was waiting for the clerk to come in and heard Sarah, from the public defender’s office, talking about this case”.

Jennifer pauses for breath.

“So, what is it about?” I urge.

“There’s this girl, Chloe. She’s fifteen and is being charged with attempted murder.” ….

I can’t remember a time, even as a child, when I haven’t been passionate about books and reading.
I began blogging, when I realised just how many other people out there shared my passion for the written word and I have been continually amazed at the wealth of books that are available and the amount of great new friends I have made, from literally 'The Four Corners Of The World'.

  • This gets off to quite an interesting start. Combined with what I know from your previous posts, I definitely want to know more! Perhaps we’ll get more in a “Teaser Tuesday” post at some point? 🙂

    • Hi Kelly,

For me, I suppose I only really needed to have included that very first line …

      “Hello, I’m Elizabeth and I’m a killer.”

I would already have been 100% hooked and up for reading on!

I must admit that I do cheat a little with this meme, as I don’t always use the book that I am currently reading. My reading is so slow, that I tend to take a random selection from my TBR pile, or Blog Tour stash and give them a bit of extra promotion.

My Teaser Tuesday posts on the other hand, are always from the book I am currently reading (don’t ask me what the difference is between the memes which makes me treat them differently – I have no idea!), so you may have to wait a little longer to check out those extra juicy bits 🙂

  • I can definitely see myself reading this one. A quote from my current book comes to me when I think of this book. I don’t have my book with me to quote it exactly, but something about the past outrunning our attempt to get away from it. That’s what this book reminds me of. I hope it is a good one!

    • Hi Wendy,

In the book’s premise, ‘If You Only Knew’, is described as “a heart-stopping story about the choices we make and how far we’d go to protect our families. Even if it means deceiving the people we love most…”

That ties in so well with the quote you are thinking of from your own book and the wider premise of the story.

I definitely have high expectations of this book and can’t wait to begin reading!

Thanks for stopping by and ‘Happy Reading’ 🙂

    • Hi Mystica,

This is just the latest in a long line of thrillers I have been fortunate to have received for review – Not everyone’s cup of tea I know, but personally, I can’t get enough of them!

Long time, no speak. I hope that all is well with you and that you have some great books coming up in your TBR pile 🙂

    • Hi Roberta,

An argument or fight, it certainly looks as though lines have been drawn in the sand.

Although surely the glass would have been perhaps thrown in an argument, rather than getting broken in such a strange way? ….

Or perhaps that isn’t spilled wine on the top by the side of the glass, but blood droplets, possibly damage inflicted by the shards of glass …

Intentionally, or accidentally? … But the rings?

How can a cover ask so many questions and give nothing away? Well Done! to the cover artist and thanks for raising the comment Roberta 🙂

    • Hi Sherry,

I do hope that your last sentence means that you still definitely want to read the book and not that the blurb put you off reading it after the cover and title had appeared so promising!

You have no idea of the ‘title’ struggles I have had when writing posts in promotion of this book. I have had to go back and edit just about every single post, because I have published the book’s title as ‘If Only You Knew’, rather than ‘If You Only Knew’ … Talk about only seeing what you want to see’ … Mind you, not one of you folks out there in blogland pulled me up about the mistake … Too polite, or you just didn’t notice the discrepency either?

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend 🙂
