“Must Love Sandwiches” is the first volume of The Bartonville Series of foodie fiction. This is a “cake” sized (novella) story of approximately 30,000 words. Recipes and two “truffle” sized (flash) stories of about 1,000 words each are also included.
This story perfectly fuels my new found appetite for the short story and novellas.

I know that the amount of ‘foodie’ books on the market seems to be increasing exponentially, however one which incorporates recipes as well, has to be good.
I do hope however, that what is already only a novella length story, isn’t too eaten up (excuse the pun!) with ‘foodie’ references, at the expense of a believable storyline.
Having spoken with Janel though, I very much doubt that this is going to be an issue and I am very much looking forward to reading my first recipe book romance!

If you check out the synopsis for this book, I think that some of the mystery about the title and cover art will start to become clear, although just how Emma changes her own life drastically is going to be a whole different ball game altogether, I think!

It really sounds as though Emma was dumped in style, doesn’t it? She doesn’t seem like the kind of girl that will take too long to bounce back though!
I actually love sandwiches, although I am not so sure that the monster sandwiches you can buy over in the US, or now from places like ‘Subway’, here in the UK, are what we ‘Brits’ would know as a typical sandwich … I wonder what you Canadians would class as a sandwich?
Just talking about food is making me feel quite hungry, but then it is 6pm here in England and I am thinking about preparing the evening meal.

The recipes are probably going to be lost on me, as I enjoy eating and fine dining, but have no real interest in cooking these days.
Reading about the food is going to be good though, especially if the sandwiches have tasty fillings … all the better if the sandwich maker is a hunk as well!!

To be honest, I am generally seen as quite a reserved and serious kind of person and it is only when it comes to putting my thoughts down on paper, that I seem to be able to be myself.
As a teenager, I always harboured thoughts of becoming an English teacher, but it is perhaps just as well that things didn’t work out that way, as I don’t think I could have faced a class of modern teenage neanderthals!! LOL
Blog Hopping is always a joy to me, although it is not always possible to visit sites as often as I would like, purely due to time constraints.
I shall be sure to let you know if the hunky sandwich maker puts in an appearance, although I think that Emma may get to him before me!

I am not sure that this chick-lit style of writing is something I would go out and buy for myself, however as a short novella it will probably work out fine and will hold my interest for just the right amount of time.
I still really want to have the story presented in three distinct areas; a high impact opening, a strong plot and a definitive ending, so we’ll see how I get on with that criteria.
Short stories and novellas are something only recently added to my reading schedule, so are still something of a novelty for me, although I am not sure that I would want to read them on too regular a basis.

Emma has certainly decided that drowning her sorrows, is much the best way to get over her artist friend and to be honest, having read the next couple of lines when preparing this post, I can’t say that I blame her …. the break-up line is pretty lame and I’m not sure that if he had said it to me, he would have still been able to draw his Zombie arms, for some considerable time to come!!
Feisty characters from the outset of a book, are always a positive sign for the remainder of the story.

I do actually love bread of just about any description and I think that if I was on my own, I could quite happily live off of toast and sandwiches for much of the time.
In spite of this, or maybe even because of this, I seldom buy bread, as I know that it wouldn’t last for two minutes in our house!
