It seemed such a shame to waste the recent lovely weather, sat in my office, listing books. My volunteer duties for my local Hospice shop, were also complete for the week; so I spent a lovely couple of days out and about, making the most of my NT (National Trust) membership.
Escaping to the great outdoors seemed like a great idea and as both of the sites I chose to visit were new to me, I had no idea as to what they would be like. Neither of them disappointed, with both the properties and their accompanying grounds, far exceeding my expectations, especially now, when all the roses and cottage garden flowers, are in their full glory.
My most unexpected and pleasant surprise, came near to the end of both visits, when I discovered ‘The Second Hand Bookshop!!’ Well, to me this was like a manna from heaven and made an unexpected and happy end to both days.
I had no idea that the National Trust had started second hand bookshops, so I set out to find out more. It seems that only a handful of their properties offer this service, which is, of course, volunteer based. Unfortunately, none of them are within my commutable area, or I would have had my name down like a shot to volunteer. It would have also been another way of me recycling some of my own second hand books, for a great cause.
I think I will contact them nonetheless, as you never know if they will be looking to expand the idea to other sites, in the future.
I can feel my ‘To Be Read’ pile getting larger, with every new discovery.
