I am a….

A fellow blogger once devised this meme/game from a book she was reading and I thought I would give it a go. It turned out to be not as easy as I thought.

Make a list of 20 things beginning with “I am a …”

Be sure not drop the “a”.. it must read: I am a…

So here’s what I came up with!

* I am a wife, daughter, sister, aunt and great auntie

* I am a committed volunteer for my local hospice.

* I am a bookaholic

* I am a charity knitter and crocheter

* I am a tidy person who dislikes muddles

* I am a lover of the coast

* I am a convert to social networking

* I am a lover of all things Disney

* I am a careful, if not overly confident or competent driver

* I am a loyal, hardworking person

* I am a shy and reclusive person

* I am a fan of all detective programmes and series

* I am a lover of live music and theatre

* I am a not very adventurous cook

* I am a reluctant gardener

* I am a pessimist by nature

* I am a morning person

* I am a non-smoker

* I am a Swindonian by birth

* I am a right-handed person

Now you know all there is to know about me!!!

I can’t remember a time, even as a child, when I haven’t been passionate about books and reading.
I began blogging, when I realised just how many other people out there shared my passion for the written word and I have been continually amazed at the wealth of books that are available and the amount of great new friends I have made, from literally 'The Four Corners Of The World'.

    • Hi there Pat,

      I’m definitely at my best in the morning before hubbie is up and about. Just me, my book and a large mug of black coffee, heaven!

      I Read your “I am’s” with interest. I’m sure that you are never “a-lone,” with all the lovely followers you have on your blog

  • I followed the link from Pat’s blog… I was going to ask if you had a blog somewhere and here it is!

    I too am a huge detective series fan – Foyle’s War being my favourite. Fellow bookaholic and am also not a confident driver. Non-smoker and morning person too. Don’t get the opportunity for live music or theatre very often but *am* off to see John Barrowman in Plymouth on the 21st.

    • Hi Cath,

      The ‘I am a…’ was actually quite a thought provoking process, wasn’t it? but very satisfying when complete.

      Foyles War was brilliant, but given charge of the remote sometimes (no chance of course), I would be permanently tuned to ‘Alibi’, where they do all the old re-runs of the detective series, heaven!

      We also have something else in common, that we both live in the West Country, a great place to be, although having spent many years in The Cotswolds, it’s a tough choice, as that too is a very beautiful part of the country.

  • Hi Violet,

    Yes, it was a fun idea and a great way to get to know a little more about fellow ‘bloggers’. You can give away as little or as much as you want to.

    It was also quite difficult to do, I could think of plenty of things to say, but having to start them with ‘I am a ..’ was tricky, not as easy as it sounds!!

    If you follow the original link in the post, the story of how the idea came about is quite interesting.

  • Wow!! We have quite a bit in common, except I don’t knit or crochet (but my mom did for the less fortunate via her church), I’ve never volunteered at my local Hospice (but I should soon), I am definitely not a morning person, I am not right handed and I of course am not Swindonian.

    • Hi Vicki,

      I am still a morning person, although I have to admit that these days, a lie in is starting to look more and more attractive by the time Sunday comes around! I love the peace and quiet which comes with getting up first, no noise or distractions whilst I have the perfect half hour with my book, my breakfast cereal and a mug of strong black coffee…. and of course my early morning catch up posts for my US readers who have only just retired for the night!

      I am also finding that blogging is starting to take over my life in the evenings, which was traditionally my time to knit or crochet, so my aim in 2013 is to try and redress the balance a little. These days I only make items which can be sold in the hospice shop where I volunteer and it is very satisfying to watch something I have made and donated be admired and purchased. Both knitting and crocheting are something I can do whilst watching television, although I find that there is such rubbish on so many channels just lately, that my viewing time is down to just an hour or so each evening.

      Not a very exciting life really, but I like it!

      Thanks for the great comments.

  • Wow I love it! I’m thinking of stealing it if that’s ok? The template I mean lol. It’s a fantastic idea 🙂 I’m not sure if I could come up with 20 though, it’d probably take a while. I’m sure it took you a while to do yours too! It looks like you’ve put a lot of thought into it 🙂

    A really impressive post 😀
    Amy x

    • Thanks Amy,

      This game rumbled around for some time when it was first published.

      I thought I would really struggle to complete the challenge, but after some careful thought, my answers came relatively quickly.

      Not having visited the page since 2012 though, I think I must sound quite boring to a complete stranger. It would be good if you filled out an ‘I Am…’ post also, then we could compare notes 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by. I’m afraid I’m not a particularly exciting person to know and to be honest, I have never really moved far away from my childhood home, although we have ventured forth on various holidays over the years. Give me a comfy chair and a good book and I’m happy 🙂
