‘WOMEN OF A DANGEROUS AGE’ by FANNY BLAKE
Lou and Ali are at that dangerous age when a woman considers what she already has, and decides what she really wants.
Lou has realised that she is married to a man who no longer loves her. Now that their children are grown, is it too late for her to make a fresh start and set up the business she has always wanted?
Ali is a serial mistress. But when her latest lover suggests that they move in together, she realises she wants more. But can she trust him to make that permanent committment?
When Lou and Ali become friends on a life-changing holiday in India they begin to learn just how much they have in common. But when a revelation shakes the growing bond between them, their courage and friendship is tested to the limit.

Now that whole concept has me very worried, I wonder just exactly what age Fanny attributed to Lou and Ali as this ‘dangerous age’, when she wrote the book? …. or perhaps I am better off not knowing!!!!

I think that I may have gone past that ‘Dangerous Age’, although it seems these days that, that age can last for many years!
They say that youngsters don’t seem to stay together any more, but I see more and more of my 40 and 50 something friends, deciding to go out on their own and start new lives …
I am sure this is going to be quite a fun read.

As I was just saying to the last commenter, I really think that this notion of a ‘Dangerous Age’ these days, starts about 20 and ends about 80!
Sometimes it is good to think of all the things that I might have done with my life, had it turned out differently, but then I wouldn’t have had all good the experiences that I have enjoyed so much in my existing life .. and there have been so many of those!
I already have my suspicions about where this story may be heading, but we shall just have to wait and see!!

I work with a variety of age groups, from those in their early 30’s to those well into their 70’s (almost exclusively female), and I am always astounded by the number of these women who decide to part company with their partners later in life.
For those in their younger years, the challenges of raising a family, with all the ensuing committment that entails, obviously contributes to the idea of breaking up the family unit. However with those from the older generations, perhaps it is the reality of two people permanently sharing house space 24/7 after retirement that is so much of an issue.
As for the likes of myself middle aged and obviously in this ‘dangerous age’ category, perhaps the grass just looks greener in someone else’s backyard??

If my suspicions about this story prove to be right, I suspect that Ali has definitely reached the danger point in her life and may be about to get more than she bargained for, in her friendship with Lou.

I can definitely see there being a humorous side to this storyline and I am looking forward to a light easy read, even if I can see many of my friends in the characters of Lou, Ali and not forgetting Lou’s fickle husband!

Fanny is also the author of ‘What Women Want’, her debut novel and that has received some pretty amazing reviews, so I am hoping for good things from ‘Women Of A Dangerous Age’.
The two storylines seem to gel together quite well, so Fanny has obviously found a niche, with plenty of available material to write about.
I wonder if she has modelled any of the characters on some of her own friends and acquaintances?

I have my doubts about whether the friendship will still be that, by the end of the trip.
I may have this completely wrong in my mind, so I am hoping to get to read the book very soon, just to find out one way or the other!
I would have liked to have travelled to a few more far away corners of the world, including India, although I would probably only have wanted to spend a short time in each place, just to say that I had done it.

I do like to read an eclectic mix of genres, so within reason, I do tend to enjoy most of what I read.
This book sounds quite easy going and nothing too deep and meaningful, although it covers issues of morality which we all come into contact with on a daily basis. It will certainly be fun discovering how the two women decide to deal with the information they have.

I am sure it can hit us at any time depending upon the current state of our fabulous hormones… & that whole statement about looking back can get a bit emotional on its own, which is an entire book in itself.

I have got to the age now, where I am blaming just about everything else on my hormones, so I am sure that my husband would be raising his eyebrows and saying something to the effect of ‘just one more thing to blame on the hormones’, or ‘oh no! not something else’

Books about groups of women friends, seem to be the up and coming trend at the moment. This is not a genre that generally tempts me, however some of them are really well written and are not too ‘cheesy’ or overtly ‘chick lit’.
I am so hoping that ‘Women Of a Dangerous Age’ fits into the ‘well written’ category and proves to be a good light hearted read.

I have been reading so much stuff, that is not my ‘usual kind of read’, just lately.
I must say that I am quite enjoying venturing out of my comfort zone, as the authors who are contacting me, are writing such diverse material, much of which is genuinely very good, and which I would probably never have thought to buy and read for myself.
I am not a huge fan of ‘chick lit’, although to be fair, I have never really read any before, so I have no preconceived expectations from this book.
I am loking forward to reading it though, as just the synopsis has provoked such a great discussion point.
