One new author review request this week, but for me a great find from one of my favourite genres, that of the murder/mystery.
This is no ordinary murder/mystery investigation though … ‘Dream of the Dead’ takes me firmly into new territory, as the murder takes place right in the heart of London’s West End theatre scene (another passion of mine) and introduces me to a detective with a difference …

‘DREAM OF THE DEAD’ – WEST END MURDERS BOOK ONE
A WEALTHY THEATRE PRODUCER IS FOUND DEAD.
A RARE, CORROSIVE POISON HAS BURNED THROUGH HIS STOMACH.
NO ONE KNOWS WHY.
Enter DI Jack Ravenshaw. A young, talented officer with a secret: he belongs to England’s most famous dynasty of actors. When Scotland Yard uncovers his hidden past, his acting experience, and his formidable connections, he becomes the perfect choice to investigate the producer’s killing. Against his wishes, he must return to London’s West End.
Cast back into one of the most vibrant – and violent – areas of the country, Ravenshaw is quickly surrounded by sexy performers, shadowy assistants, and powerful investors. Finding the truth seems almost impossible. Devious suspects lie at every turn. Corrupt officers sabotage his inquiry. Even his mind tricks him with dreams and hallucinations about his past. Yet with the help of his mysterious partner, DS Emily Hart, Ravenshaw must put all his skills into action against an ingenious, twisted, and ruthless killer…
But can he solve the case before another person is murdered?

Hi Laurel-Rain,
I must admit to loving a good mystery suspense story myself and this one certainly has a unique and unusual premise … former actor turned detective, I can’t wait to see how this storyline unfolds!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by, I always appreciate your comments and I hope that you have a lovely Christmas.
Having a poison burn through your stomach doesn’t sound pleasant at all. I hope that story is as gripping as it sounds.
Hi Kathy,
I must admit that if I was about to be murdered, I would want it to be over with quickly, but most importantly of all, painlessly.
This sounds like a horrible way to die and I don’t do pain very well … LOL!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment, I always appreciate it.
Have a fabulous Christmas.
This sounds like an exciting book! I hope you enjoy it. Have a great week.

Silver’s Reviews
My Mailbox Monday
Hi Elizabeth,
Corrosive acid, shadowy assistants, devious suspects, together with a detective who has dreams and hallucinations … Yep! you could definitely call this one an intense read … I can’t wait!
Have a fantastic Christmas and a good week.
“A rare, corrosive poison has burned through his stomach” ? Yikes!!
I love this genre, can’t wait for your review!
Hi Vicki,
Matthew has certainly had a change in direction with this more contemporary murder / mystery series, a total turnaround from the historical fiction he is used to writing. He is most definitely giving his new character DI Ravenshaw a challenging and unique case with which to begin the series. It will be interesting to see where he finds himself in the sequel, just how much more intense can his cases become?
I hope that you may have the opportunity to grab yourself a copy one day, it would be interesting to compare notes!
Have a lovely Christmas and thanks for stopping by.
Sounds good! I hope you enjoy it!
In case I don’t catch you again before Christmas… Have a wonderful Christmas!
Hi Nikki,
I thought that this storyline would be right up your street. The idea of a theatrical detective is certainly an unusual and intriguing one!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you and your family have a lovely Christmas.
I also hope that you didn’t get too much damage in yesterday’s storm and make sure that you batten down the hatches ready for the next storm due to hit us on Boxing Night.
Take Care.
Hi Yvonne,
The storm hasn’t been too bad with us. Just lots of water on the road the last few days.
I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas.
Happy Boxing Day!
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
Christmas and Boxing day weather has been lovely, went for a long walk this morning and just had our own Christmas dinner, as we were with relatives yesterday.
All tempered with much sadness as our best friend is in her local hospice, receiving end of life care for cancer. At 51, with two teenages sons (both our Godsons), there isn’t much justice!
Hope that you have had a lovely family time.
I’m hoping you enjoy Dream of the Dead. It sounds like a great murder mystery with a London setting.
Hi Naida,
We used to go up to the West End theatres on a fairly regular basis, but we haven’t done so for some time now and after reading the book’s synopsis, I am not sure that I really want to either. I know that this is one of the most vibrant areas of London, but had no idea that it is also one of the most violent!
Mind you, I would be hoping not to have my stomach destroyed by a corrosive acid…I wonder whether the producer drank the stuff unknowingly, or whether it was forced down his throat … might it even be that his stomach was burned from the outside inwards? … I can’t wait to find out!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you have a geat New Year!
