This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

This week sees a welcome return to the pages of Fiction Books, for mystery writer Carolyn J. Rose.
Such is the rapport we have developed over the past year or so, that book gift vouchers arrive in my ‘inbox’ unannounced, from time to time, which is always a very much appreciated and welcome surprise.
Carolyn has written several traditional mystery series, however this, her latest ‘No Substitute’ series, featuring substitute teacher Barbara Reed, definitely falls into the genre of the ‘cozy mystery’, a genre I know that many of you out there particularly enjoy.
…
‘NO SUBSTITUTE FOR MATURITY’
After tangling with killers (NO SUBSTITUTE FOR MURDER) and a deranged drug dealer (NO SUBSTITUTE FOR MONEY), substitute teacher Barbara Reed craves routine, relaxation, and quality time with drug cop Dave Martin.
Moving in together seems like the way to achieve that. But Dave’s teenage daughter is part of the package—a package filled with drama, conflict, stress, and shirked responsibility.
And Allison’s issues are only the tip of a looming iceberg. Thanks to Mrs. Ballantine, Cheese Puff’s obedience level falls to new lows. Meanwhile, Barb’s smarmy ex-husband lands a job at her condo complex, curriculum changes spark teacher turmoil, and Barb’s bombastic sister, Iz, launches a protest against the justice system.
Then the police chief resigns, leaving Dave at the mercy of a new boss with an old grudge—a boss who wants Iz arrested for murder.

Thanks for sharing this new=-to-me author. I plan to hunt down a copy of the first book in the Substitute Teacher series.
Thanks, also, for visiting my blog. Wishing you less rain, more sunshine, and happy reading in the week ahead.
Hi Catherine,
I am certain that you won’t be disappointed with Carolyn’s descriptive style of writing, the great storylines she comes up with and the excellent characters she introduces to the mix.
The rain is forecast to fall for the next few days and sunshine is in very short supply. Reading and my voluntary work helps to lighten and brighten the doom and gloom and of course reading and blogging is always a great panacea for the winter blues!
Thanks for stopping by, it is great to chat with you.
Sounds like a good book, and a good series. Will have to check them out.
Hi Vicki,
Carolyn is an excellent mystery writer, however the ‘No Substitute’ series takes us into the realm of the ‘cozy’ mystery.
Whilst this is not a genre I read on a regular basis, knowing the author’s style of writing and excellent character building capabilities, are definite plus points for me delving into the three books in the series with some enthusiasm.
Thanks for being such a gracious host for MM and I hope that you have a good week.
I’m not a huge mystery fan but will occasionally read a cozy. Hope this is a winner for you. Have a good week, Yvonne!
Hi Mary,
If you enjoy the occasional cozy mystery, this series sounds like one you might enjoy.
There are so many foodie and knitting cozies around right now, that a series of stories about a substitute teacher, is going to ring the changes quite nicely.
Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate your comments and I hope that you have a good week.
Ooh, this sounds good and I’m intrigued by the mention of Cheese Puff. Happy reading.
Hi Tracy,
As there has already been mention of Cheese Puff in the synopsis of the previous books in the series, I won’t be giving the crown jewels away if I tell you that he is a very small dog, weighing in at approximately ten pounds, although his breed isn’t mentioned, so you’ll just have to check out the books to find out! … LOL!
Thanks for the great comment, I appreciate your time and consideration and have a great week.
This book sounds right up my alley. I haven’t heard of this author of series before. Thanks for sharing.
Hope you’ll pay me a visit at http://www.thebusymomsdaily.com/2014/01/mailbox-monday-january-27.html
Hi Cheryl,
Mystery writers, Carolyn Rose and her Husband Mike Nettleton, have been writing both collaboratively and individually for some time and together they make up…
‘Deadly Duo Mysteries’ … http://www.deadlyduomysteries.com/
Together they maintain an active blog and Carolyn never forgets me when a new book hits the presses, for which I am grateful, as I just love the great mystery storylines she comes up with, together with the colourful characters with which they are populated.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, I always value your thoughts.
Enjoy your week of reading.
Thanks Serena,
Given the cold wet, windy and very wintry spell of weather we are experiencing right now, curling up with a good book sounds like much the best idea and there is no better author to while away the hours with, than Carolyn Rose.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that your week is a good one, with plenty of reading time.
Thanks for featuring No Substitute for Maturity. Writing doesn’t seem like work when I’m spending time with these characters and getting their adventures down on the pages.
Hi Carolyn,
You are more than welcome and I look forward to getting stuck into the ‘No Substitute’ series, although I do have several more of your great books lined up to be read first.
You have such an easy way with narrative and dialogue, which makes the stories a pleasure to read and your excellent characterisations bring the words to life.
Thank you for the many complimentary copies you have gifted me, I truly appreciate it.
This one sounds good! I enjoyed one of Carolyn Rose’s books (An Uncertain Refuge), so I must read more. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
Hi Laurel-Rain,
I am just in the middle of reviewing the follow up to ‘An Uncertain Refuge’, which is titled ‘Sea Of Regret’.
Although the two books would work as stand alones, ‘Sea Of Regret’ does bring the story started in ‘An Uncertain Refuge’ to a definitive conclusion, whilst fully developing the characters and their relationships.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment and I hope that your week is a good one.
I read Ms. Rose’s book: Hemlock Lake. It was VERY good.
I hope you enjoy her new book.

Hi Elizabeth,
Carolyn has gifted me a copy of ‘Hemlock Lake’ and its follow up ‘Through A Yellow Wood’, both of which I have yet to have the pleasure of reading, so it is good to know that this is another mini series which I should enjoy.
I hope that your Mum is stable and hopefully showing signs of some small improvement, but remember to take care of yourself as well.
I enjoy good cozies. This sounds like a good one!
Hi Harvee,
Introducing a substitute teacher as the main protagonist in this series of cozies, is certainly going to ring the changes, as I haven’t come across this particular scenario before.
I also love the cover art which Carolyn has chosen to accompany the series, when viewed together the three covers certainly have an impact!
Thanks for stopping by, I always love to read your comments.
Happy reading Yvonne. I have one of Carolyn J. Roses books on my Nook as well.
Hi Naida,
I am certain that once you have read one of Carolyn’s books, you will be as addicted to them as I am. She is definitely right up there with the talented mystery writers.
Thanks for stopping by today, I know just how tough the past few weeks have been for you all. It is good to catch up with you again.
