STAN SCHATT
Stan describes himself as a futurist, technologist, novelist, and a person curious about many things.
His curiosity about things might be well born out by the veritable roll call of jobs he has held over the years including: autopsy assistant, police department administrator, salesman, sales manager, literature professor, telecommunications professor, and technology analyst, and research director.
For many years he worked as a technology analyst, covering such diverse areas as green technology, wireless networking, network security, and local area networks. He has written several books on these topics and started Schatt Research as a way for him to publish his views on key technology trends. Because traditional market research firms charge such outrageous fees for their reports, he decided to publish his studies as books online, available at Amazon for a tiny fraction of what companies he worked for sold the same type of material.
Stan is now a full-time writer and lives in Carlsbad, California with his wife, Jane. He is primarily writing mysteries at the moment when it comes to fiction, together with his technology papers and non-fiction books focusing on careers and retirement.
He is also a volunteer job facilitator for the Jewish Family Service in San Diego, with the goal of finding good jobs for the unemployed.

I’m not especially fond of the paranormal, so I will probably pass on this….but I’ll admit it has an interesting premise!

I have to admit that I chose to accept this book for review more for its premise, than the fact that it has paranormal tendencies, which is not a genre I have ever really explored in any detail.
I am willing to approach the genre with an open mind and am more than prepared to include it as part of my reading portfolio. However if I don’t get on with this book, I probably shan’t accept any more books from the genre for review and stick more to what I know I enjoy reading.

I am not much of a believer in the psychic phenomenon … if I can’t see it with my own eyes, then the chances are it doesn’t really exist!

i just can’t really tell from the synopsis exactly how driven the story is by the parallel make up of a police precedural, ghost story and paranormal experience stoyline. I am hoping for a good mystery above all else!!

Stan Schatt, the author of ‘Silent Partner’, likens his protagonist Frankie Ryan to that of Michael Connelly’s character, Harry Bosch. I have only read a couple of books in this vast series of some 19 stories, so I won’t really be qualified to comment on the resemblance, however I am certainly hoping that Frankie shapes up well as she walks in Harry’s footprints, as I have nothing but admiration for Michael Connelly’s writing.

I do hope that this is not simply the ARC cover and subject to change before publication, as that would be a real shame. I did notice that the book has now been placed on ‘Goodreads’ with this same cover, so I am hoping this is a good sign!

I think that anyone with even a passing interest in the paranormal mystery genre, would be intrigued by this premise. I love a good mystery and I am approaching the paranormal aspects of the story with a completely open mind, hoping to discover my love for an as yet unexplored genre.

I must admit that the premise for this book is quite intriguing and interesting, although I am not sure whether it is the character of Frankie, or that of the tabloid journalist, which has me most hooked. Tabloid Journo’s are always portrayed as people everyone loves to hate over here in the UK, so I might question Frankie’s judgement if she thinks that is the only person she can trust to help her!!

Yes, I think that the author has given a lot of thought to the final outward appearance of the book, with an excellent title and striking cover.
I am quite liking the sound of the main protagonist, Frankie Ryan, although it seems to me as though all fictional detectives seem to have shady pasts and dysfunctional private lives … I wonder if either of these are traits general to real life police and detectives …. What a worrying thought!

I am hoping for some fast paced action from this thriller, which is what the synopsis definitely indicates, although I maybe have some slight reservations about the paranormal aspects of the storyline. A fellow Goodreads friend is in the middle of reading the book and does say that the paranormal isn’t too large a part of the story so far, so I am watching her progress and waiting for her review, with interest.
I used to be able to watch all the TV programmes featuring autopsy work, cold cases etc. and lap them up. Just lately however, I am finding that any explicit content tends to have me turning away until it is all over! I am not sure what that is all about, but I do think that you need to be a special kind of person to work in that environment and I certainly don’t fall into that group I’m afraid!
