I have heard of that scenario quite often, the faithful dog found next to the body of its owner, although I have wondered why such a faithful animal, wouldn’t have gone to try and attract someone’s attention.
Perhaps dogs are more intellegent than we give them credit for and if the owner had been injured but alive, then it would have gone for help, but knowing that the person was already dead, it simply sought to protect the body until help arrived?
Either way, this is a harrowing premise and I can’t wait to see how the first few lines shape up for my ‘Book Beginnings On Friday’ post.

With over 30 years logged as a Police Officer, I should imagine that Sarah has only revealed the tip of the iceberg with the Charlotte Stafford series to date.
She must surely have a whole wealth of material, knowledge and ideas to expand the story lines and I may actually go back and read the previous two installments in sequence, just so that I can get in at the ground level with what looks to be an intriguing series!

Animals meeting their fate in novels gets to me much more quickly than people (is that horrible to admit!?), so the beginning of the blurb causes me some alarm!
I looked back at earlier posts and remember how good this author’s works sounds. I will keep this in mind, but as I’ve downloaded three books to my Kindle in the past week (thanks? to you), that’s as far as I’ll take it. 🙂

Of course your feelings, as an animal lover, are not horrible to admit and I can completely understand your sentiments. I am not a huge animal lover myself, although I would never knowingly or deliberately hurt an animal.
I am getting the impression however that this wounded dog may possibly be the only incident involving an animal and so long as the injuries inflicted are not too graphically described, I will be able to see past it to the wider storyline.
I am downloading so many books to my Kindle just lately (an email has just flashed up with another author review request for a book which sounds great!), that I can never hope to read them all, even if they are complimentary! I shall be interested to know what books I have been responsible for you adding to your TBR list 🙂
I just realized I fibbed and only one of the three was via your blog: The Accident by Dawn Goodwin is now sitting on my virtual Kindle shelf. 🙂
The other two were thanks to Charlie at The Worm Hole. Who knows, once I review them, they might end up on your virtual shelf! 😉
You are more organised than I am for sure. I have to make lists so that I remember who I am reviewing which book for – the only trouble is, that my pile of lists is almost as tall as my TBR pile 🙂

My Mailbox Monday
Hi Elizabeth,
I really have to thank Aria Fiction for bringing all these great new books and authors to my attention and offering me the option to feature and review them.
I should imagine that the police will be pulling out all the stops to capture this killer, being as he or she is targeting victims from within their ranks.
It seems to be significant that both the officers are female and red roses have been left beside their bodies, but at least the investigating officers have a common ‘modus operandi’, from where to begin their investigations.

I already have the first couple of episodes in this series, sat on my virtual shelf waiting to be read, so I may just go back to the beginning of the series and read the books in sequence, just to get some backstory continuity ….. But then again I might not and I’ll just dive right in at episode #3!!

All is well down here in Somerset, thanks for asking. Although I am already sick of Christmas and we are only just into November!! … That’s the trouble with being involved in retail!
Oh Dear! I didn’t mean to stir up such angst amongst you animal lovers. I guess that I am going to have to vet any further lines from the book I had planned on sharing, just in case I cause further grief and distress!
I’m sure there are plenty of human bodies in this story, just to take the edge off the situation 🙂
