Thinking over the events of the last several days, Kim wondered if the primitive state Edward and the researchers were currently suffering had been occurring on a nightly basis. If it had, and if they had had a suspicion about it, it would explain the marked change in the atmosphere of the lab. With horror Kim realized that there was a good chance the researchers were responsible for the recent trouble in the neighbourhood blamed on a rabid animal and teenage vandals.
Kim shuddered in revulsion. It was plainly obvious to her that the ultimate cause was Ultra. By taking the drug, the researchers had become “possessed” in a fashion ironically similar to some of the “afflicted” people in 1692.
These musings gave Kim some hope. If what she was thinking were true, then they must revert back to their normal selves come morning, just like in an old Gothic horror movie. All Kim had to do was stay hidden until then.

I looked back at your “First Lines” post and will say that I find these much more exciting. I always enjoy a good thriller and, if I didn’t already have such a massive TBR pile and wish list, I’d add it!
Hi Kelly,
Many of Robin Cook’s books have been adapted for television films, including this one, back in 2001, although I have never seen it.

I can always remember one of Robin Cook’s medical thrillers, ‘Coma’, being made into a feature film back in 1978, starring Michael Douglas, with the screenplay by Micheal Crichton

The film scared me to death and even to this day I don’t like walking the lengthy, dimly lit hospital corridors, we still have in some of our older buildings.
Sometimes the older books and authors are the best 🙂
Sounds like a scary story. I’m curious about Ultra and its strange effects.
My Tuesday post features A Memory of Violets.
Hi Sandra,
If you really want to scare yourself, you should check out the link in the book’s cover image, which will take you to a very comprehensive premise on Amazon.
I have singled out just a couple of lines from the premise to give you a hint about Ultra and its consequences …
“Edward Armstrong believes he has hit the jackpot. He has isolated a stunningly effective anti-depressant from a bacterial mould first uncovered over two hundred years ago.
But there is more to the drug than anyone could have imagined. When Edward turns violent and the corpses of mutilated animals appear near the laboratory, his girlfriend decides to investigate the truth about this new ‘miracle’ drug. Before it claims any more innocent lives…”
‘Happy Reading’ 🙂
This creepy book sounds right up my alley. Enjoy it 🙂
Hi Naida,
I am amazed that I am struggling so to find anyone who watched the feature film of Robin Cook’s book ‘Coma’. Michael Douglas really creeped me out in the title role and I think that this book is definitely on a par for fear factor. It has made me want to search out some of the other books and re-read them, which is something I seldom ever do!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that all is well with you 🙂
I haven’t read on of his books in a long time. This one sounds thrilling.
My TT from Nothing Left To Lose
Hi Laura,
This paperback has been languishing on my shelves for many years and is one of the rare re-reads for me. It is now set to move on to pastures new once I have finished with it.
I had no idea that following a writing career which began way back in 1972, Robin Cook was such a prolific author and is still regularly turning out his medical thrillers, with another set to hit the shelves later this year.

It was great to hear from you and I appreciate you taking the time out to comment 🙂
Oh man. That sounds AMAZING! Definitely adding it to my list. Thanks
Hi Robert,
As a Doctor, Robin Cook is definitely one author writing about a subject he knows inside out and doing so brilliantly, with his writing career spanning almost four decades.
If you enjoy a good medical thriller, then look no further than Dr. Robin Cook, to keep you totally entertained and on the edge of your seat 🙂
