‘MURDER AT THE RIVER BEND RETIREMENT RESORT‘
Returning from her early morning run, Miriam noticed the white paper because it stood out against her black painted mailbox. She stared at the folded piece of paper that someone must have left there after she picked up her mail the previous evening. At first she assumed it was a note from a realtor describing a home for sale in the neighbourhood and asking if she wanted to sell hers. She felt faint when she unfolded the paper and stared at the message. The writer had cut words as well as individual letters from a magazine and pasted them together into words that chilled her to the bone. She read over the message once again. She sensed the anger in the frighteningly crude language describing what he wanted to do to her and what he would force her to do to him. Her law enforcement classes as well as common sense told her a man and not a woman had written this, but who did she know who was even capable of it? She had never ever had a disagreement with anyone in town as far as she knew.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Ambrosia @ ‘The Purple Booker‘
Anyone can take part, by just doing the following:
Grab your current read.
Open to a random page.
- Share a couple of “teaser” sentences, from somewhere on that page.
- Be careful not to share “spoiler” sentences.
- Remember to share the title and author too.
- Head on over to ‘The Purple Booker’ and leave a link to your post, so that others can share it and you can share other people’s.
It would be great if you then decided to leave a comment for Ambrosia, as we all like to receive them and are interested in sharing your thoughts.

I already thought this sounded good from your earlier posts, but your teaser here just confirms it! It may have to go on my ever-growing wish list!
Hi Kelly,
This story line is definitely shaping up to be something a little different and I do think it might be a read you would enjoy.
Stan seems to be able to adapt to writing across a multiplicity of genres, all with the same ease and natural story telling ability 🙂
Ooh, you certainly know how to pick teasers that intrigue. However I’m not too sure if this one might be too dark for my liking.
About to start the final book of His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. So far I’m not impressed.
Hi Tracy,
Ah! Then I have chosen my lines well, as this one definitely isn’t a dark story, just a good wholesome murder / mystery which is slightly on the cozy side.
You should check out the full premise, as I think this book might just appeal to you as being slightly on the quirky side.
I’m not a fan of Philip Pullman, however my Goodreads friends and fellow readers seem to have rated and reviewed it very highly. It really is all a matter of personal taste, as with every other book we feature.
I hope that you manage to finish the book and that you move on to something more to your liking quite quickly 🙂
This sounds so good. I would keep reading.
My TT from Passing Strange
Hi Laura,
If you enjoy your murder / mysteries quite light hearted, investigated by a crime writing amateur, who is about to have to put into practice all the skills she has learned theoretically in order to become the successful author she is, then this is definitely one for you!
Very much in the style of a modern day Miss Marple (Agatha Christie) or Agatha Raisin (M.C. Beaton).
Thanks for stopping by, great to catch up with you after so long 🙂
It sounds good and I wonder about the note. Enjoy it 🙂
Hi Naida,
Well! the note gave the game away, or so I thought – I had the whole thing solved in the first 20% of my Kindle copy and all that needed sorting out were the whys and wherefores – WRONG!
I have quickly discovered that nothing is more dangerous than a thwarted and jealous elderly person – unless it is a whole retirement complex full of them! I have more suspects than in a Hercule Poirot mystery already and no idea how the ending goes!
Thanks for stopping by and if I don’t speak to you again beforehand, enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday 🙂
